“What is a Millionaire Mindest” is something I have been pondering over lately. I mean sure, I’d like to be a millionaire but:
- what are they really like?
- What do they do?
- What do they think about?
As an entrepreneur, I am always reading books to improve myself, to learn new or improve my skills. I read because learning gives me great pleasure.
I recently read “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” by T. Harv Eker. What an insightful book. I will be reading it a few more times I am sure.
According to this book, millionaires really do think differently.
I remember the first time I read this book I asked myself, “Does this mean it’s time to change my thinking?”
But, how? How does one change the way they think?
Follow along and I’ll share what I learned.

What Do You Believe?
It turns out that we are taught from a very young age that whatever social class we are born into is where we will always be.
That doesn’t even sound fair…
… this would mean every one of us doesn’t have a choice of how we think, it is done for us in our growing up.
So if you were born into poverty, you always struggle with poverty. Likewise, a person born into the middle class will always be middle class.
We grow up hearing our parents and grand-parents views on money.
Ever hear of these phrases:
- “Money is the root of all evil“
- “money doesn’t grow on trees“
- “money doesn’t buy happiness” or
- “there’s never enough“.
I don’t know about you but I grew up hearing all of those phrases, but they never felt right to me.
Constantly hearing those phrases from a very young age, is programming us to think negatively about money.
So then we grow up unconsciously thinking having money is bad or it isn’t supposed to happen to us, we don’t deserve it.
Imagine, according to studies done, a lot of people don’t believe they deserve to be wealthy.
The truth is we all deserve wealth.
We just have to change the programming in our minds.
- If you don’t believe you deserve things then you will never have them.
- If you do believe you deserve to have the finer things in life then you will have it.
Let’s take a look at how the millionaires think. Perhaps we can change our programming and experience higher levels of success in our own lives starting today.
Create Your Life
In spite of what we have been taught…
… life doesn’t “just happen” to us – we actually create our life.
We are exactly where we are because we created it. We did so by choosing our career or job according to our belief of what was available to us not based on what we truly wanted to do.
When things don’t work out we look for someone or something to blame. We blame the economy, the government, our employers. We blame the problem on anyone or anything but ourselves.
Wealthy people take responsibility for themselves and their circumstances. If something didn’t work out it is because they “didn’t know something” so they needed to learn a life lesson.
Yes it is that simple…
We all have a choice.
We can continue being a victim and always struggling or we can choose to take responsibility and admit that we are not where we want to be because of the choices we made.
Then learn from our mistakes and keep moving forward.
Don’t harp or beat yourself up over a mistake.
“wow, ok, that doesn’t work, time to try something else”
Play to Win
OK, so what is the difference in the way people think? Well, for one…
- The goal for the wealthy is to have massive amounts of wealth.
- The poor people of the world just want to have enough to pay the bills and being on time would be nice.
- The middle class goes a little further and just wants to be comfortable, to be able to pay their bills and take a nice vacation.
I definitely see a pattern developing here in the way people think, can you?
Read those lines again if you have to, I’ll wait.
Committed to Wealth
Most of us will admit “Yes I’d love to be wealthy, who wouldn’t” but then we counter that with a negative like, “But that’ll never happen to me”.
We would say “I’d love to travel the world” then counter that with ” But then the whole world will want a hand out”.
Do you see how we are self-sabotaging ourselves?
We are putting out to the universe that we want something, then immediately confusing the universe by stating why we don’t want it.
We will never get anywhere that way.
One minute we are asking for it and then the next we are taking it away.
Wealthy people are totally committed to attaining wealth. They won’t let anything stop them. They have their Plan A, plan B and plan C. In their mind and they will do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to get their desired results.
Yes, whatever it takes and as long as it takes to get it.
Did you notice how the mindsets are totally different? I sure did.
Here is the biggest piece of advice I can give you today to help you to become wealthy…
Think Big
Yes, I know it sounds so simple but don’t underestimate its power…
We have heard this before but what do they really mean by this?
The “Law of Income” states that You will be paid in direct proportion to the value you deliver according to the marketplace.”
Okay, and what does that mean exactly?
Simply put, if you are just going to show up at a job and do the bare minimum then you can expect to get paid the bare minimum.
However, if you go to work and go that extra mile, and do a little more than what’s expected consistently you will earn that promotion and pay raise. If you develop yourself into a leader you will become a manager or venture out and start your own business.
Why work for a minimum when you can be the boss?
The truth is we don’t work any harder at a business than working a job – so why not have the business and all the quirks that go with it?
Focus on Opportunities
It comes right down to…
“Is the glass half empty or half full?”
Wealthy people will always see opportunities while the poor and middle-class people always see it as obstacles.
Optimistic people see potential growth while pessimistic see potential loss.
The separation between the wealthy and the poor, having what you want or having “bad luck” is the simple difference in how we choose to think.
The “Law of Attraction” states that positive or negative thoughts will bring positive or negative results. In other words, you will receive what you think about.
Either you focus on opportunities and growth or you focus on obstacles and loss, the choice is yours.
I choose to build my business online so my income is not dependent on someone else.
Find a Mentor
Without realizing it we choose mentors for other areas of our life.
For example how many young basketball players are mentored by pro players like Michael Jordan or Lebron James? They look up to them and try to emulate their success by doing the same drills, hoping for the same success.
Or you want to learn to cook well so you try to follow a famous chef like Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay. You learn their recipes and copy their techniques.
The same is true for financial success. Find someone who has what you want and learn from them. Ask them how they did it and do it yourself. Of course, you have to be careful of the scams out there.
To help with avoiding the scams you can read my guide on “How To Know A Scam” here.
Since becoming an affiliate marketer I don’t lack finding mentor-ship. Kyle and Carson (my mentors) are both always available to help anytime I get stuck.
Make New Friends
Wealthy people associate with wealthy, successful, positive people.
The rest of us hang out with others who are struggling the same as us and complaining about it.
If we truly want to change our lives we need to start spending time with successful, positive people.
This will encourage us to keep going when things are difficult without dragging us back down to where we came from.
As we are changing we need encouragement, not discouragement.
The friends I have made within the Wealthy Affiliate Community are so supportive. It truly is a positive environment in which to learn and grow.
Sell Yourself
Wealthy people are proud to promote themselves and their ideas. Less successful people don’t promote themselves or their ideas because they view them as being boastful.
The truth is “If you don’t promote yourself who will?”
We all have great ideas just as much as wealthy people do. If you don’t speak up and get to work on your idea someone else will and they will be the ones getting wealthy not you.
I recently helped an older single lady with her website. She really wanted to make money online but claimed she didn’t have any idea what she could do or promote. After a few hours working with her to see what interests she has, with our help, she was able to build a website that is all her creation.
She went from struggling day to day not knowing what to do to make extra money to doing what she loves best and making money on the side with her website just by helping others.
I am no longer afraid to sell myself or my ideas. I know I have a lot of knowledge and value to offer the world. I wish for you to feel that sense of freedom yourself.
Decide to Get Paid Based on Results rather than Time
You will never get wealthy trading time for money. In other words, by working for someone else, they get wealthy and you get paid just enough that you can’t leave. Think about that for a moment, they pay you just enough that you think you can’t do without it.
Hey, I was there, I was scared to death to leave the military.
Why not get paid for results rather than time? A lot of people are afraid of being paid commission but really that system has a built-in motivator to always do your best.
When you do your best you become a much better person in the mirror.
And, you will always get paid exactly what you are worth.
If you are not getting paid what you want then you must develop yourself so you are bringing more value to the marketplace.
Once you are bringing high value your earnings are truly limitless.
Because of affiliate marketing, I am finally in the driver’s seat as I build my business and create my residual income streams.
Constantly Learn and Grow
To become truly wealthy you must constantly learn and grow.
Learn by reading. It’s well-documented that wealthy people are voracious readers. They consume books at a rapid rate.
They don’t just read anything though, they care about what words they allow to enter their minds.
The wealthy read books to improve memory, writing skill and speaking skills.
They read to improve themselves so they can continuously bring more value to the marketplace thus increasing their earnings.
Within WA, I am regularly training and am always reading and researching ways to improve myself, my sites and my business.
Conclusion
As you can see the answer to “What Is A Millionaire Mindset” is pretty complex. I certainly couldn’t cover everything in this article but I tried to touch on what spoke to me.
I would highly recommend picking up a copy of “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” by T. Harv Eker.
It goes in-depth on how to change your thinking and even gives exercises you can do to help with the mind shift.
I find it sad that we are not teaching these concepts in our schools.
Just imagine what our kids could accomplish if they were given this knowledge in high school or even sooner. Studies have shown that we do most of our learning at a young age up to age 8 which then starts to taper off.
